Job Description

As a Project Engineer at Turner Construction, you will manage and supervise all engineering and administrative functions at the project level. You will coordinate with field operations to ensure the effective transfer of information, ensuring all project requirements are met and understood. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the contract documents, including Turner’s contract, plans, specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Lead and supervise Turner’s engineering staff, providing feedback on performance and completing performance appraisals.
  • Ensure adherence to safety, ethics, and compliance requirements on all projects.
  • Facilitate communication of information among project team members and stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain procedures for information flow, approvals, meetings, and reporting between design professionals, consultants, owners, and subcontractors.
  • Work with Preconstruction, Estimating, and Purchasing teams to develop the Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) or initial project budget. Lead preconstruction efforts specific to project engineering needs.
  • Conduct comprehensive construction document reviews to ensure constructability and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC). Resolve concerns with the design team.
  • Participate in cost estimation, material method studies, and other preparatory assessments for the project.
  • Develop a detailed contract items list, including significant construction project requirements. Create trade scope of work documents for bids, material, and equipment purchases.
  • Create a procurement schedule for subcontractors, materials, and equipment to maintain compliance with the construction schedule.
  • Manage project finances, including project status updates and financial report accuracy.
  • Organize, conduct, and document all project-related meetings, including coordination and owner-architect meetings.
  • Oversee the subcontract change order process, including reviewing subcontractor estimates, negotiating change orders, obtaining owner approvals, and preparing subcontract change orders.
  • Manage the project close-out process, ensuring proper warranties, guarantees, final payments, and records retention.

Skill & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with at least eight years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, cost control procedures, estimating, construction costs, scheduling, and engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and Turner’s Project Management and scheduling software is desirable.
  • Proficiency in implementing technologies such as Building Information Models (BIM) and Lean construction.
  • Strong understanding of construction documents, materials, means, and methods.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to lead and collaborate within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse team.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to perform duties requiring physical activity, including climbing stairs, using construction hoists, and negotiating work areas under construction.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to climb ladders, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed.
