Job Description
As a Board Certified/Board Eligible Emergency Medicine Physician at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse, Wisconsin, you will join an established Emergency Medicine practice. You will work in two state-of-the-art emergency rooms, one at the main campus in La Crosse and the other in Sparta. You’ll provide care across a wide range of cases, collaborate with multi-specialty teams, and be part of a supportive, patient-centered environment. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on patient care while being supported by a team of professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide emergency medical care in two facilities: one in La Crosse (34,000 annual visits) and one in Sparta (9,000 annual visits).
- Work 12-hour shifts, with single coverage in Sparta and some double coverage at the Emergency & Urgent Care Center in La Crosse.
- Collaborate with Family Medicine physicians, Hospital Medicine Service, and other specialties to ensure comprehensive care.
- Manage and treat a wide range of medical conditions, from critical emergencies to fast-track/urgent care cases.
- Perform patient admissions and coordinate care with appropriate specialists and team members.
- Participate in air transport teams and be available for urgent care needs.
- Communicate effectively with patients, their families, and colleagues to provide high-quality, compassionate care.
- Collaborate with multi-specialty teams, including Family Medicine physicians and PA’s/NP’s, ensuring continuity of care.
Skill & Experience
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work well within a team and manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to handle a diverse range of medical conditions in both emergency and urgent care settings.
- Experience in a high-volume emergency room environment (preferred but not essential).
- Team player who works well with multi-disciplinary teams and communicates effectively with patients.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining professionalism and providing patient-centered care.
- Passion for patient care and the ability to handle challenging situations with empathy and efficiency.
