Lyft Inc. is an American transportation and logistics company that operates a mobile app offering ride-hailing, vehicle rentals, and micro-mobility services such as bicycles and scooters. Headquartered in San Francisco, California, Lyft is one of the largest ridesharing platforms in the United States, competing primarily with Uber.

Lyft was founded in 2012 by Logan Green and John Zimmer as a service under the parent company Zimride, which they had established in 2007 to provide long-distance carpooling solutions. In 2013, the company rebranded as Lyft and shifted its focus to on-demand ridesharing. Lyft expanded rapidly, introducing new features such as Lyft Line (shared rides), Express Drive (rental cars for drivers), and Lyft Business (corporate travel solutions).

Lyft went public in 2019 on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol LYFT. Over the years, the company has diversified its services, partnering with autonomous vehicle developers and investing in sustainable transportation initiatives, including electric and hybrid vehicle programs.
